About

The purpose of the 2010 WAMFAC (Walk-a-Mile For-a-Child) Project Initiative is to raise awareness on children living below the poverty level.

WAMFAC is a collaborative effort made up of all types of people, and we would like for you to be a part of it! Join us as we gather on Saturday, September 18, 2010 so that hundreds of families with children living under the poverty level are provided with a one week's supply of food and hygiene products.

An Event Journal listing all of the sponsors and registered participants will be given away on the day of the walk and a 100 percent cotton teeshirt will be provided to every person registering. Registration fee is $30.00. Starting points are as follows: EAST ORANGE – Green Pasture Missionary Baptist Church between New Street and Church Place; ELIZABETH – Jefferson Park near Madison Avenue and Mary Street; IRVINGTON - To Be Announced; JERSEY CITY – Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church @ at 140 Belmont Avenue; NEWARK – By Rutgers on University Avenue between Central Avenue & Bleeker Street; ROSELLE/LINDEN – Corner of Chandler and St. Georges Avenue.

  • This is a rare opportunity to join other New Jerseyans from all around the State who DARE TO CARE about their young neighbors living in poverty.
  • Meet ordinary folks who are energized by giving as they line up to walk at 7:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning all over the State of New Jersey.
WAMFAC Distribution Sites will be set up in various municipalities throughout the state where volunteers will be standing by to give away 400 boxes of food, personal care items, and Avon products to 400 families with children experiencing a hardship and/or living in poverty.
  • Make this a family affair for the kids as the whole family participates in this community outreach.
  • Put together a team at your school, your job, or your place of worship.
  • Find out more about our WAMFAC Distribution Sites by taking a look at their
    individual websites.

WAMFAC™ Project Initiative 2010 will be a one mile walk throughout certain targeted New Jersey areas (Newark, Roselle/Linden, East Orange, Elizabeth, Jersey City, and Irvington). A WAMFAC Distribution Site (Link Community School, Second Baptist Church, Green Pasture Missionary Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, and Irvington Town Hall) will be in each city we walk through. The walks will begin at the same time in each city on SEPTEMBER 18, 2010, and they will culminate with a food delivery at designated distribution sites. The food deliveries will be distributed to 400 families in each walked through municipality. No item will be sold and all items will be given away.
